NOTE: Please note that while students will get to glaze some of their pottery pieces during this workshop, they will not be constantly glazing the whole time.  The workshop will follow a syllabus that is intended to provide a well-rounded look at the properties and processes related to glaze.

For beginners and advanced students, wheel potters and hand-builders.

In this two day workshop, students will learn the basics of glaze mixing, glaze layering, stains, wax resist, testing and application.    We will cover making test tiles both on the wheel and by hand-building.

There will also be a glaze making demo to show the process. This demo will result in a new, awesome glaze that is loved in studios around the world and will be available for continued use by TACS after the workshop -what is it?  Join this workshop and find out!

Students should bring:

  • Original ceramic work to glaze (must be made with clay purchased through Tryon Arts & Crafts School)
  • Glaze journal (a note pad or notebook specifically for recording glaze tests and results)
  • Underglaze pencil
