Tryon Little Theater’s production of “Mamma Mia” runs at the Tryon Fine Arts Center Feb. 14 – 17.
ABBA came out of Sweden in the ‘70s to become one of the most successful pop groups in history. “Mamma Mia,” a musical based on their songs, became a global entertainment phenomenon seen by an estimated 80 million people worldwide — from London to Moscow, from Shanghai to Broadway — and now is coming to Tryon.
The musical is set on a fictional Greek island, where a young woman who is about to marry wants her father to walk her down the aisle. Unfortunately, she does not know who her father is, but, after reading her mother’s diary, she decides to invite three possible dads to the island to try and determine which one it is — unbeknownst to her mother!
Sophie, the soon-to-be bride, is played by Hannah Searcy, and Donna, her mother, is played by Susie Kocher. Maddy Moreland and Reese Alley are Sophie’s good friends (Ali and Lisa), and Wendi Arms and Lori Lee play Tanya and Rosie, Donna’s sidekicks when they were on stage together many years before as “Donna and the Dynamos.”
Bryan Hauss is Sky, Sophie’s fiancé, and his friends, Pepper and Eddie, are played by Kit Prough and Cole Owens. The dads are Chris Tinkler (Harry), Jordan Wright (Bill) and Guy Winker (Sam).
Father Alexandrios is played by Stephen Harris.
There is an ensemble of islanders and wedding guests, and those roles are filled by George Alley, Stephen Harris, Kyle Wilson, Rachel Harris, Sarah Searcy, Savanna Fain, Maggie Collins, Hannah Lynch, Monica Jones, Tena Greene and Karen Workman.
Tickets are available at tltinfo.org. Showtimes will be 7:30 p.m. on Thursday and Friday, Feb. 14 and 15, at 2:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 16, and at 3 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 17.
