Tales of Tryon

March 18 @ 4:30 pm - 7:30 pm

Please join us at the museum to welcome our guest speaker,
Dr. Joseph Fox. There will be a reception sponsored by the Polk County Community Foundation at 4:30 pm, with Dr. Fox’s presentation beginning at 5:30 pm.
Dr. Fox adds more history and elaborate thought provoking content to his Tryon Historical Museum talk as he explores the cultural norms that fostered the growth of Black-owned businesses on the Eastside of Tryon, NC. The discussion focuses on the inability of persons of color to own businesses in the past on most Main Streets throughout the United States, and how the environment created a climate for entrepreneurship in Black communities, including Tryon. Discussion also focuses on the move to integrate Main Street America, and some of the negative consequences that grew out of the movement. A number of Black-owned businesses will be discussed, as well as how these early businesses became the foundation for current Black-owned businesses in Tryon.

As always, admission is free.
Limited seating
Donations gladly accepted
