Tryon Rolling Art 2018 Annual Car Show

November 3, 2018 @ 10:00 am - 2:00 pm

The 7th Annual Tryon Rolling Art show returns to Tryon on the first Saturday in November. We hope you will join us!
Entry is free – contact us for details to sign up. All Cars, Trucks and motorcycles are welcome.
We ask that all participants bring canned food to be donated to Thermal Belt Outreach – in 2017 we donated 354 pounds!
Our goal this year is at least 400 and we need your help to get there!

Traditionally, before the opening of the Tryon Rolling Art Car Show, some owners of collector cars meet at Ned Gallaher’s Restorations shop on Ridge Road departing at 8:30 a.m. for a drive through the foothills with Ned in the lead driving one of his cars which he displays at the show. This year, the show will be held on Saturday Nov. 3, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Palmer Street between Stott’s Ford and Maple Street.

One  of Gallaher’s cars is a combination of rolling sculpture, and rolling Tryon tradition. His 1948 MG TC roadster with its wire wheels, sweeping fenders and impeccable condition was previously owned by Bob Lane, whose tradition of contributions to the Tryon and Foothills community is carried on by the next generation of Lanes.

Rolling Art has become a Tryon tradition as well. The Tryon car show got its name from the Tryon tradition of art, and the Tryon art walks. The cars that are entered are an eclectic collection of British, French, Italian, German, and American classic and contemporary cars. There are separate divisions for passenger cars, trucks and motorcycles. Last year a 1939 Lincoln Zephyr modified as a pickup truck won the Sponsors Award and a 1953 Packard limousine converted to a funeral flower car won the People’s Choice Award with the most votes cast by those in attendance.

The motorcycles are another eclectic collection of English, German, Italian American and Japanese examples of antique, classic, and modern touring and racing bikes. A favorite of many is the sidecar racer.

Pre-registration is now open online. For more information and to pre-register, go to Rollingarttryon@gmail.com. The registration desk will also be open beginning at 8:30 a.m. the morning of the show in Thompson’s parking lot on Palmer Street. In addition to registering in advance, the online application also allows the registrant to enroll to participate in the drive in. There is no fee for displaying your vehicle. Exhibitors are asked to bring a non-perishable item as a donation for Thermal Belt Outreach.  Last year Rolling Art Car, Truck, and Motorcycle Show collected and donated 354.6 pounds of food for Thermal Belt Outreach Ministry.
