Figure-Drawing Classes for Serious Beginners
Tryon’s contemporary art gallery Upstairs Artspace will offer a series of three figure-drawing classes for “serious beginners” in June, taught by noted artist Scott Cunningham of Spartanburg. The two-and-half-hour classes will be the first three Sunday afternoons in June (June 11, 18, 25) starting at 2 p.m. and will cost a total of $150 per person. Each class will include instructed drawing of a live model with the last class featuring a nude model. The program is limited to 10 students.
“These classes are geared toward serious beginners,” gallery President Patti Trobaugh said. “Scott has a rigorous syllabus of exacting exercises that will dovetail with the drawing of the model during the latter half of each class. Scott is a professional trained and accomplished artist with extensive teaching experience. By having someone of Scott’s caliber, we are offering a quality learning experience for those people who are serious about figure drawing.” Cunningham’s website is ScottCunninghamStudio.com.
Students will be responsible for bringing their own supplies, which will be specified during enrollment.
“These are going to be demanding classes, but they will be fun,”. “My goal is to make sure I give the students the instruction they need to test their abilities for more advanced training. I am especially excited that Upstairs Artspace will provide live models. By having a nude model for the last classes, these students get a truly professional experience.”♦
