Beer & Hymns – Tryon Kickoff
Tuesday, September 9, 2025
Rogers Park, Tryon, N.C.
6 p.m. play through, 7 p.m. main event
BYOB; Bring a chair and an instrument if you’d like! Donations welcome.

“Rogers Park will host the kickoff of Beer & Hymns on Tuesday, September 9, offering an evening of music, community, and song.
The concept is simple: people gather, bring their favorite beverage, and sing classic hymns together. The informal event encourages participation from all—whether singing harmony, melody, or simply listening in. Lyrics and chord sheets will be provided in both print and digital form. A casual play through of the songs will take place from 6 to 7 p.m., with the main singing beginning at 7 p.m.
Musician Aaron Ybarra, who previously helped lead the Asheville chapter of Beer & Hymns, will guide the evening. That chapter, founded by Methodist pastor Joy Moss, grew into a popular gathering spot at venues such as Barley’s, Twelve Bones, and Habitat Brewing. Over its five years, the group played everywhere from community events to memorial services, even navigating the challenges of the pandemic with Zoom singalongs.
Ybarra is a frequent performer with theaters in Tryon, and is looking forward to bringing the community event to the small town. “There’s something deeply moving about a room full of people singing these songs together,” he said. “They’re well-written pieces of music with a lot of history, and they speak to people from all walks of life.”
Beer & Hymns is open to all denominations, as well as those with no religious affiliation. The aim is to create a welcoming “third space” for gathering and song. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own beverages (water will be available), instruments if they’d like to play along, and their families. Donations are welcome but not required.
For now, the Tryon gathering is a one-time event to test local interest, but organizers hope it could grow into a regular tradition.”
