Walks in the Woods at Saluda Library Parking Lot

Walks are scheduled mid-March through mid November, weather permitting, join Saluda Community Land Trust members to explore local favorite walks in the Saluda area. Walks generally last about an hour and a half, and besides showcasing our local treasures, encourage getting folks outside.
Walkers meet at the parking lot of the Saluda Library at 2pm. A SCLT member will keep you aware of the terrain of the trail and share their insights about the history, flora, and fauna of the area as they lead each walk.
June 2: Waters of Camp Creek is a short hike and exploration that showcases local flora and fauna.
June 16: Vaugh Creek is a 1.7 mile out and back trail near Tryon. This trail follows the creek featuring a small waterfall, native flora and fauna, a Native American marker tree, and a large culvert at the end of the trail.
July 21: Lazy Girl is a 1 mile easy walk of about an hour. The trail traverses a stream and connects Esseola Drive through the woods to Laurel Drive in Saluda. No pets on this walk.
August 4: Ollies Falls/Missing 40 is a 1 mile loop of moderate, wooded trail walking and will take about 1-2 hours. The trailhead is located on Pearson Falls Road just above the concrete bridge over the North Pacolet River. The trail is well blazed, kid and pet friendly, and has several easy water crossings.
August 18: Green River Cove Trail is a walk along Old Cover Road that went from Saluda to Green River in the 1920s. The trail follows a stream down to Fish Top Access. The walk will be easy ti moderate, occasionally steep, but with great views.
September 1: Henry’s Nature Center is wooded terrain and a two mile walk that transverses an old home site and the new Pavilion honoring Henry Cart.
September 15: Over Mountain Trail is a 1.1 mile trail that leads to the Green River and back.
October 6: Old Home Place #2 on Holbert Cove where you will glimpse fields, streams, water cascades, and an old homestead.
October 20: Palmetto Trail/Saluda Mt is a quite moderate out and back walk of about 3 miles & 2 hours long. The trail has some switch backs and stairs.
November 3: Cabins in the Cove is a tour of a 1920s restored log cabin. The trail is 1 mile out and back and features a barn and small waterfall.
Prepare for each walk with comfortable shoes (and, where you see an * wear water shoes), a walking stick, water, and a snack. Feel free to bring your field guides and a camera. Please provide any pertinent medical history to you guide. Many of these hikes will access private property. SCLT has obtained the owners’ permission to allow you to access these areas that are normally not available to the public. Call ahead to determine whether the hike will welcome four-footed companions.
