Native son Sam Waymon returns home to Tryon to talk about his sister, Nina Simone, his musical career as a member of her band, and his solo work in this intimate and informative sit down interview. “The Legends of the Music Industry Interviews is the first in a new series at Tryon Fine Arts Center that acknowledges the contributions of artists over a long career in the music industry. The format brings together the artist with their fans/audience in an intimate reflection on their career, with music, stories from their time in the industry, and an interactive question and answer session with the audience led by our moderator, Melvin Cox. The first guest in the series is a native son of Tryon, a composer, and musician who has toured the world and written musical scores for numerous films. Sam Waymon grew up in the pre-civil rights era of Tryon with his sister, Eunice Kathleen Waymon — a.k.a. Nina Simone. Their experiences growing up in the town would shape them both throughout their careers. Sam was a musical collaborator with his legendary sister, and a member of her touring band. Sean of the South will be playing at Tryon Fine Arts Center on Saturday, June 22 at 6:30pm. “Sean Dietrich, aka Sean of the South, is a multi-instrumentalist, and started playing mandolin when he was seven, guitar at age eight, and played piano in church at age nine. His wildly popular blog and musical podcast, “Sean of the South,” is suited for anyone with red clay on their car and sand in their shoes. His work has appeared in Newsweek, Reader’s Digest, Southern Living, Garden and Gun, and he has authored fifteen books. Sean’s one-man shows have earned him a cult-like following in the southeastern United States and among closeted accordion players worldwide. Native American Flute Concert at FENCE

Native American Flute Concert at FENCE on Saturday, June 15, at 7pm. Tickets are $25 in advance or $30 at the door. Multi-award winning Native American style flute artist Timothy J.P.
