😧💜Our hearts are hurting from the tragedies of the Hurricane Helene disaster in Polk County and Western North Carolina. Our thoughts are with our friends and neighbors who are suffering.
We wanted to give you a quick update on the First Peak - our Visitor Center has resumed normal hours. First, we want to thank the amazing crews working around the clock to assist our communities. Our small town main streets of Tryon, Saluda and Columbus have electricity and relatively minor damage. The primary roads around the county are generally OK and repairs are already underway. Most businesses that have electricity are working to get back up and running quickly. Many of our trails and attractions are closed until things can be evaluated for repairs. Our scenic roads along the slopes and rivers have dangerous washouts or landslides and should be avoided until further notice.
But stay tuned! Check the Facebook pages of the places you love to get their updates. Call or message us for news. As things unfold, we are preparing a consolidated list of attractions, businesses and event updates that we will post on the First Peak web site so you’ll know when you can visit us – we’re about a month from peak fall color.
If you live outside of the affected area and would like to help, we kindly request that you donate to the North Carolina Disaster Relief Fund at this link: nc.gov/donate. Thank you so much.
We look forward to seeing you soon,
First Peak Visitor Center
