Pottery Techniques: Building Face Jugs and Piggy Banks with Rob Withrow

March 24, 2019 @ 10:00 am - 4:00 pm

$100.00$105.00

Sunday, March  24, 10am to 4pm
Members   $100       Non-members  $105
Materials fee – $40

Renowned face jug potter Rob Withrow will demonstrate the fundamentals of his acclaimed face jug construction. Students will produce several forms on the potter’s wheel, such as mugs, jugs, and other pots. On the surface of their pots, they will add raw clay and reclaimed porcelain fragments to create whimsical faces. Students may play it by the book and follow Rob’s basic suggestions for facial features, or they may go their own way and get creative about add-ons – imagine a range of features, such as dimples, hair, rings, moles, scars, glasses, or even animal features like whiskers and snouts. Students may construct their own forms for decoration. Students will throw a face jug, a large face jug constructed in 2 pieces, and a piggy bank with features and legs.

All students must complete all construction of artworks by the end of the Sunday session. Since students will not able to bisque fire, glaze, and fire all of their pots during this period, they may coordinate with TACS’ office to schedule additional glaze time, as needed. Additional studio time that is not related to glazing will be allowed for a standard TACS Studio Time fee.

NOTE: Visiting students must arrange pick-up or pay for shipping of pots after their final kiln firing.
